How to play Parrotly
Parrotly is a mimic party game for 2 to 8 players and one phone. Everybody copies the same sound with their voice, and the best copy wins the round.
A round, step by step
- Pass the phone. The screen names the player whose turn it is.
- Listen. A short sound plays: a cat, a siren, a sneeze. You can hear it again before you start.
- Copy it. After a 3-2-1 countdown the microphone listens for a few seconds. The parrot's beak follows your voice.
- Get the score. A number from 0 to 100, plus three bars: shape (how loud it is, moment by moment), melody (how the pitch moves) and timing (how long you took).
- Next player. After the last player the round results rank everyone: 3 points for the best copy, 2 for the second, 1 for the rest.
How the score works
Nobody can sound exactly like a siren, so Parrotly does not look for a perfect copy. It lines your voice up with the original and compares how loudness rises and falls, how the pitch moves (up, down or steady, whatever octave you sing in) and how long it lasts. A close copy reaches the 90s, an honest try lands around 60 to 80, and silence scores nothing. Everything is measured on your phone.
Tips that win rounds
- Copy the rhythm first, the sound second: a siren is "up, down, up, down".
- Keep the phone about a hand's width from your mouth.
- Be dramatic. Short, flat noises score lower than ones that move.
- Let kids go first. They are better at this than adults.
